Somalia: Data Protection Act, 2023

The Data Protection Act, 2023 , of Somalia came into effect on March 23, 2023 with the signing of  Law No. 005 of 2023. This also led to the establishment of the Somali Data Protection Authority. The Act established data controller obligations such as breach notification, the conducting of Data Protection Impact Assessments, vendor management, and restrictions on cross-border transfers. The Somali Data Protection Authority  was established by the Federal Government of Somalia to supervise the protection of personal privacy and monitor compliance by organizations with the Act.
